Player Profile

Mountsorrel-born Gill made just one Football League appearance for the Foxes and had his senior career sadly cut short when he suffered a broken leg.

His only game came at Gainsborough Trinity in October 1901, playing at left-back, after impressing in a couple of friendly matches on his return to Leicestershire from a spell in Southampton.

Gill was a professional cricketer and only played football as an amateur, although he did have a number of clubs. He had trials with Bristol City and then Grimsby Town before his career took him to the Saints.

He moved back to his home county mainly to play cricket for Leicestershire, as a medium-fast bowler, but also signed up for Fosse. After his senior career came to a close he did return to play for Fosse in their reserve team, backing up as either a goalkeeper or full-back.
