The Scotsman's time at Leicester was relatively non-descript, being part of a Fosse side that finished in mid-table in the Second Division in the 1900-01 season.

Starting out at his hometown club, Hamilton was brought south of the border by Wolverhampton Wanderers but suffered a serious injury early-on during his time with Wolves. A move to Loughborough followed, where he got more first team action, and even went on captain his next team, Bristol City before moving to Leicestershire.

His stint lasted just one season, playing most of his games in the pivot role as Fosse endured a season to forget. He moved to Vicarage Road and Watford after Leicester and was also a player and coach at Fulham, where he brought his playing days to an end.

After Fulham, Hamilton is reported to have been the first professional coach employed in Brazil, with CS Paulistano.
