Player Profile

Leicester-born Jayes was a good prospect when he signed on for City in 1971, being capped seven times for England schoolboys and being selected as ‘one for the future’, but he never fulfilled that particular destiny.

The problems were evident from his debut, in the FA Cup Fourth Round against Leyton Orient, when he conceded a poor goal that cost any regular run in the first team. Instead, City allowed him to move to Peterborough United on loan and he made a permanent switch away from Filbert Street in November 1977 to Peterborough United.

He got his wish on more regular action with the Cobblers and spent three years there before finishing his career at Leamington and going on to enjoy a career in the police after football.
