This afternoon I had the pleasure of not only watching the legendary Jersey Budd but joining him on stage for a rendition of when you’re smiling to over 1000 people at the whetstone coronation concert I was compèring.
It went down a storm and there were plenty of blue flags flying but he told me something that surprised me. His version of the song was written for charity so not only does he not receive a penny in royalties from the club but they don’t even provide him with a ticket to home matches.
Now I’m a huge fan of our owners and I’m sure they weren’t aware of this but it seems the least they could do was give him a ticket. So I promised I would start a campaign to get a ticket for Jersey Budd-please say yes to this page if you agree.
I know not everyone likes the song but most sing it with gusto at the start of each match and only seems fare the man singing should get something by way of a gesture of thanks by the club,
He’s very good if you want to book him by the way.
