Gillingham manager Cooper resigns

Gillingham manager Neale Cooper has resigned after a recent run of poor results, which included the FA Cup defeat against non-league Burscough.

Assistant boss Ronnie Jepson will take over until a successor is named.

Chairman Paul Scally said: "It has been a pleasure working with him and I am distressed at his departure.

"One or two people need to take a hard look at themselves at this club, as there is no doubt Neale was let down in certain areas."

Gillingham currently lie two places off the bottom of League One, but Scally added: "Neale has been a credit to his profession and this club."

The Scot, who has also previously managed Ross County, signed a two-year contract to replace Stan Ternent in May, shortly after leaving Hartlepool by mutual consent.

However, the Gills only won seven of the 22 league and cup games for which he was in charge.
