He’d played at a higher level and scored a raft more goals than old Ayoub. But, to answer your question: Age. Profile. How terrible value for money any deal would be. How quickly we’d realise we’d made a terrible mistake. And this is from someone who thought Slimani would score hatfuls for us. He didn’t, he was far too expensive and we had a nightmare getting him off the wage bill/recouping any outlay. Off the back of winning a European competition, this fella will be too. He’s 30, untried in any top league and will cost a fortune with no resale value at all. Although this fits our MO with terrible recruitment policy of the last few years, there’s not many scenarios this makes sense IMO. Avoid at all costs. He is out of contact and free to sign for a new club on/ after July 1st. Are you still saying avoid at all costs given that vital bit of info? Given that we are broke and desperate to get some bodies in and on the cheap, we could do worse. Doubt his wage demands will be high. Edited 30 May 2024 by dooflip 1

Doubt his wage demands will be high. Find me somewhere online confirming this? Nothing online states he's out of contract, and off the back of a European campaign like he's just had I'd be astounded if, even if he was, Olympiakos didn't have some form of option/clause in there. This isn't someone walking out of a club on a free. That alongside the fact that at the start of this thread there were fees mentioned "If we can get him for the right price" etc. suggests to me this isn't the case. And to your previous point, if he is on a free, signing on fee and wages are instantly alot higher due to no transfer fee. There's an argument to be made for both sides, he could come in and score 30, however, I doubt that would happen judging by his previous experience and record. So this doesn't change my view that this is exactly the kind of signing that seems to have little upside and something the club should be avoiding. Returning to the model of developing players and selling for profit needs to be where the transfer policy aligns to, this isn't that in any way, shape or form. Just my opinion.
