Precursor but not ran by UEFA and it started simply as trading cities playing eachother in friendlies. 

 

Nowhere near the standard of the current one.

Tell that to Jon Sammels . I can remember the big deal by time Geordies and Arsenal etc won it. Certainly not friendlies by then
