Scow Posted 19 July 2004 Share Posted 19 July 2004 New Hull City signing Nicky Barmby has revealed manager Peter Taylor was a major factor behind his high-profile move to the KC Stadium.Barmby, who joined the Tigers earlier in the month after agreeing a severance package with Leeds, has already been a huge hit at the club after making a goalscoring debut at Canvey Island on Friday. The former England international is determined to resurrect his career at City following unsuccessful spells at Leeds and Liverpool, and admitted the Taylor factor was pivotal in him dropping down two divisions to play for his hometown club. Taylor is now back at the helm of the England Under-21s in a part-time capacity and Barmby believes his experience at international level may inspire the Tigers to back-to-back promotions this season. "Peter is a good man, a good coach and a great tactician," Barmby said. "You just have to look at what he did when he was caretaker manager at England when he gave all the young kids a chance and also made David Beckham captain. "There are not many managers with his experience in this division and all the lads look up to him. You can't say too much because it can blow up in your face, but with Peter in charge and with the players we have got here, we've got a good chance of doing well this season."
