Ash Posted 20 October 2004 Posted 20 October 2004 Louis van Gaal resigned as technical director of AFC Ajax after the Dutch champions defeated Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. Resignation accepted Van Gaal, once coach of Ajax, rejoined the Amsterdam side in the summer of 2003 after stepping down from the helm of the Netherlands national side. He offered his resignation on Saturday and it was accepted by the club's directors after the game. Turbulent relationship Van Gaal, who led Ajax to victory in the UEFA Cup in 1991/92 and the Champions League three seasons later, has endured a difficult relationship with head coach Ronald Koeman which culminated in a well-publicised disagreement after the 4-0 loss at FC Bayern München three weeks ago.
