Adams - 'Keown is a legend'

Leicester boss Micky Adams believes he has pulled off a major coup in persuading former Arsenal defender Martin Keown to sign for the club.

Adams did not believe he had any chance of signing Keown after the former England international, who won 43 caps, first left the Gunners at the end of last season.

But when it came to looking around for a new centre-half, Keown was still available and after signing him up he is now hoping the defender will play a major role in helping City return to the Premiership following their relegation last season.

"Martin is a legend," was Adams' simple assessment of Keown.

"When he is not playing, for whatever reason, he will be working closely with me on the training ground at times and hopefully passing on some of the things he learned from Arsene Wenger, as well as some of the other great managers he played under at Arsenal.

"In return, I will help him try and achieve his ambition of getting into coaching and management. If he wants to do anything, then I am available to him."

At first I was a bit unsure about the signing, but the more I think about it, the more I realise what an asset he could be for this club. He could really be the making of someone like Stearman, and may even improve Heath.

i can imagine he'll give heath a right earful for making sloppy passes/getting out of position. might be just what the dr ordered to turn heath into a good, solid 1st team player.

Hopefully, he'll learn to be more aggressive, and not be dictated so much by opposing strikers.

I think and hope that Keowns experience and quality in the past years will rub off onto some of the defenders and maybe be the main man at the back, transfer rating = 8/10

I think he will do alot for us on and off the pitch , but ive got this feeling once his contract is up with us , he'll feck off back to Arsenal to coach

I must admit when I first heard it I did not like it but since then I've thought about it a bit more; I found out that Matt Elliott was going to be unavailable for 12 weeks rather than 3 and Keown's coaching role has been announced and I feel a lot happier about it as long as it does not block younger players, mainly Heath from appearing and developing. I ,like most people on here, hope that we will be back in the Prem in the not to distant future and we will not be able to buy a whole new team, that will be good enough. I am very encouraged by Canero, Williams and Connolly so if we can develop a couple of our own players while we are down we will have a much better chance next time. I am now a lot happier that I was when I first heard the news and hope that he will develop our youngsters and stay on as a coach for longer than just the one season.
