SEE QUESTION 3

Rob Kelly - Leicester

Former academy coach Rob Kelly took over one of the most difficult jobs in the Championship when he succeeded Craig Levein on a temporary basis back in January. With Leicester City facing the very real threat of relegation, he steered them to a 14th placed finish. It was enough to land him the gig permanently and, although the season has started in less convincing fashion, the trained journalist knows that he has to back up his words with actions.

Q YOU STARTED THE SEASON WITH TWO DEFEATS, BUT AFTER A WIN OVER IPSWICH AND A DRAW AT COVENTRY, YOU NOW LOOK TO BE GETTING TO GRIPS WITH THINGS…

A Like a lot of teams in this division, we are still finding our way. The Championship is going to take ten or 12 games to shake itself up. We will be able to see where we are all going then. We never lost belief after the first two games of the season, or hit the panic button. We didnt start the season as well as we had wanted to, but we look a bit better now.

Q AFTER SUCH A SUCCESSFUL FINISH TO THE SEASON, EXPECTATIONS WERE HIGH AT THE WALKERS STADIUM. DID THAT EXAGGERATE THE LOWS FOLLOWING THE FIRST WEEK?

A I knew there would be challenges for us before a ball was kicked – Im not sure we had quite bargained on such a searching examination in the opening few days. But I remain convinced that my group of players are up for the challenge. We did make life difficult for ourselves because of the two opening games. But it is nothing we cannot turn around and the past two performances have been much more of what we are about.

Q AS A NEW MANAGER, WAS IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP YOUR SELF-BELIEF WHEN YOU SUFFERED THOSE DEFEATS AT LUTON AND AGAINST BURNLEY?

A Keeping a cool head is one of the most important jobs in football. We were flavour of the month last season and now we find ourselves being questioned. Being a man of humble stock, Ill stick with Rudyard Kipling and his famous poem about treating triumph and disaster the same. We need to retain a sense of perspective throughout all of this. We have only just completed the first two weeks of a season of 46 matches.

Q ARE YOU CONFIDENT YOUR SQUAD CAN SUSTAIN A SUCCESSFUL UPWARDS PUSH THIS SEASON?

A It was – predominantly – this group of players that produced a consistency of result last season that was the envy of most of the Championship. We have added to that group and they are capable of similar results and performances.

Q YOU HAVE NOT BEEN AFRAID TO THROW IN SOME OF YOUR YOUNGSTERS, LEVI PORTER FOR INSTANCE, WHO MADE HIS DEBUT AT COVENTRY ON FRIDAY NIGHT…

A I think we have a nucleus of good young players at the club. James Wesolowski, Levi and Richard Stearman are all young, and don't forget that Patrick Kisnorbo, Paddy McCarthy, Iain Hume and Matty Fryatt are all in their early 20s. It's promising for the club if we can hold on to them. If we encourage and develop them, there is a bright future.

Q FRIDAY NIGHT AT COVENTRY WAS A TYPICALLY FRENETIC AFFAIR, WERE YOU HAPPY OVERALL WITH THE POINT FROM THE GOALLESS DRAW?

A If you cant win then you will take a point. We kept a clean sheet and there were lots of other positives. It was always going to be a physical match. The Ricoh is a difficult place to go to. We had nine attempts on goal and that is a lot for an away side.
