Fox in a Box Posted 27 October 2006 Share Posted 27 October 2006 Match staged in memory of player Matt Gadsby Matt Gadsby played for Walsall and Kidderminster Former internationals are to play in a football match in Staffordshire on Sunday in memory of a defender who died aged 27 after collapsing on the pitch. A post-mortem examination revealed Matt Gadsby, who was in action for Hinckley United when the tragedy happened on 9 September, had a heart condition. The memorial game is between Tamworth Sunday league team Newton Thistle and a Leicester City old stars side. Peter Shilton and Cyrille Regis are among ex-England players due to play. Play-off victory Ex-Leicester pair Gary Mills and Paul Ramsey, Aston Villa's European Cup winners Gordon Cowans and Tony Morley, and one of Coventry's FA Cup winners Micky Gynn, are expected to feature. More than £20,000 has been raised in memory of Matt Gadsby, who collapsed in the first half of a match at Harrogate. The former Kidderminster defender, who lived at Swadlincote in Derbyshire, featured in Walsall's play-off final victory against Reading at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2001. Sunday's memorial game will kick off at 1330 GMT at the Newton Regis recreational ground, Tamworth. The prices are £3 for adults and £1 for children with the money going to the Matthew Gadsby Trust Fund. Newton Thistle play in Division 5 of the Tamworth Sunday league.
