lookwhaticando Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Quite possibly the lamest use of a modified popular song. The ad is all about how fuel efficient Toyota cars are (in the US). The music is Dire Straits' Money for Nothing... They replace the lines "I want my, I want my MTV" From the intro with the following words: "I want my, I want my MPG" Terribly cheesy. And the visual effort of the advert was equally shit. They're all obsessed with fuel efficiency at the minute (about 10 years too late, really) - particularly here in Ontario (Toronto mostly) as we've had a severe fuel shortage when one of the refineries was shut down (panic buying has bled some fuel stations dry early in the day). Silly bastards.
Dellyjo Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 For some reason, most car ads here are c^ap and the worse things is that someone has been paid good money to come up with the cr^p!
Suffolk_fox Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 We have noticed that a lot of car ads are filmed in South Africa. Does anyone know why???

You can imagine 5 buffoons sitting in some swanky office laughing at each others jokes and nodding at every idea that comes out of there mouths. Some of these adverts are ridiculously poor. The very least they should be doing is grabbing our attention but I swear most adverts just pass me by these days!
Zingari Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 the one that i can't fathom out is the KIA CEED ; "what why where when" repetition; the honda; " don't you love it when things work" is still a masterpiece though

Sadly the ads in North America were so predictable for so long. I swear, over the last five years... 80% of car ads have followed a similar pattern. Phase one (10s) - Lots and lots of engine noise coming from a car that's doing about 20mph on a straight road. Phase two (4s) - Camera goes inside the car for a brief shot of the drivers painted-on smile and the interior (don't linger) Phase three (5s) - Back to engine noise and slow motion shots while the voice-over proclaims the car to be the most powerful in it's class (backed up with a mention of the car's bph). Phase four (1s) - quickly flash the price and all the terms and conditions of the rock-bottom price they're offering. Basically a car ad consisted of noise and a horsepower figure... Pathetic. Now, though, the likes of Toyota and Honda are quoting MPG figures instead! Talk about breaking the mould!
