acooling08 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 we have strikers like howard, hume, hayles, dj, fryatt and more who are all decent strikers. we have midfilders like oakley, clemence, laczko, bori and more who are all decent midfielders. The problem is that we are 'missing out' the midfilders. Its McCauley, kisnorbo or another defender playing a long hopefull ball upto howard who either flicks on to knowhere or gets beaten/fouled. Its the slow buildup Its the squashed in one dimensional midfield What SHOULD happen is a midfielder gets the ball and runs towards to box inviting the challenges and have a shot or create a chance for a striker. What SHOULD happen is that a midfilder or winger collects the ball and runs down the wing and crooses it for the strikers in the centre. What SHOULD happen is the midfielders break with speed and play a throughball or lofted ball for the striker to run on to because then WE WON'T NEED ANOTHER FOOKING STRIKER BECAUSE THEY WILL BE GETTING THE SERVICE/PASSES/CROSSES. thats what holloway needs to do. QPR fans, I know a few really hated his brand of hoofing up to Paul Furlong and looking for scraps.
LeeCovFox Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Couldn't agree more- Holloway has a history of HOOFBALL though- especially at Bristol Rovers and QPR and to a certain extent Plymouth. QPR fans, I know a few really hated his brand of hoofing up to Paul Furlong and looking for scraps. They didn't hate him winning promotion for them though and establishing them in this league. My flatmate is a QPR fan. He is a right smug git right now, understandably, but he has nothing but fond memories of Holloway. According to him, and he is a season ticket holder and has been for many years, Holloway is very much still loved at QPR by their core support, and they were furious at the chairman who placed him on gardening leave. The QPR side was far from full of talent, and in this league, the brand of football they played was relative to the quality they had available to them. I'm told that in League One, with a side which was amongst the best in that league for two or three years, the football was played on the deck, was attacking, and attractive. You can only play the football which your side is capable off. We have a poor side. I remember well Neil Warnock being slagged off for his brand of football at Notts County in the early 90's. But it worked, he took them from the third division to the first. Some City fans now wish that Warnock had been appointed here earlier in the season. Of course, I want an attractive, successful side at the Walkers. But just successful would do. We were hardly great to watch under MON. But we all laud the man because we loved the success he brought to us. We simply have a poor side, who as a unit are incapable of playing attractively. Lets just survive, let Ollie build (anyone who thinks he was building in January is naive in the extreme) in the summer, and I'm certain we will see a much improved situation next season in terms of results and style of play.
