fox123 Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 February 6 marks the first anniversary of Fabio Capello’s opening match as coach of England’s national football team. The former AC Milan manager was appointed by the Football Association on December 14 2007 but had to wait almost two months to take charge of his first game. Rightly or wrongly, the intense media scrutiny that surrounds the England coach dwarfs that bestowed upon the other home nation teams, as well as the vast majority of the world’s international teams. Such pressure, which stems mainly from the expectations of the English press, derives from the fact that the position remains one of the highest paid roles in world football. The FA will pay Capello a total of £26 million if he remains as coach until the end of his contract in June 2012. Capello inherited an England squad short of confidence and direction that had failed to qualify for the 2008 European Championship under the guidance of Steve McClaren. However, under the Italian’s stewardship, England have enjoyed their best ever start to a World Cup qualifying campaign and returned to the Top 10 of FIFA’s world rankings. I think he has done an absolutely fantastic job, he knows what tactics to play against what team, has had the best qualifying record of any England manager, I salute you Fabio Capello.
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 I never doubted him taking the England team forward. His record speaks for itself. World class manager from a long line of Italian greats. Well done Fabio.
