"Despite me saying earlier about the difficulty of getting a good result at Crystal Palace, one of my great memories was of a critical 1-0 win there in 1996. It was the week after that infamous 2-0 home defeat against Sheffield United, when the Filbert Street crowd protested and O’Neill went out and met with the supporters, asking them to give him time to put things right. We went to Charlton on the Tuesday night and Steve Claridge snatched a 1-0 win for us. Then we did the same at Selhurst Park, thanks to Iwan Roberts’ strike. It was hands down my best game for the club. I must have headed the ball 100 times as we had our backs to the wall and held out for the win. I even managed to break my hand in four places that day. We proved that you can grind results out inLondon, after having traditionally struggled down there. I’m sure the current crop can do the same and start the season with a bang."
