Riders star JR Blount's weekly blog with Soar Magazine...

"The Newcastle fixture was definitely one to forget. The Eagles soared above us in every statistical category imaginable and they used their experience and hot shooting to destroy any hopes we had of a road upset against a top table team.

"We came out a little flat and they took advantage right away, and it never stopped from then on. The end result was so embarrassing that I won’t even tell you all but, just know, we definitely owe them a great deal of payback when they make the trip to Leicester."

"Going into this weekend we knew we had two tough tasks ahead of us but coming off back to back road wins we were very confident. The Sharks were our first challenge on Saturday, and standing at 4th in the table and posting a 10-4 record, we knew this was a top level team coming into the John Sandford Sports Centre.

"But, we were up for the challenge. Our game plan was to take it right to them and that’s what we did as we jumped out on the Sharks early. But they showed us why they have already won some silverware this season as they made shot after shot and pushed us to a 12 point lead early in the fourth quarter.

"However, no lead is safe on our home court. We fought back tirelessly and tied the game late and then won from the free throw line. Jo Harris and Ryan Zamroz led us with 19 points each and I followed suit with 17 points and 11 assists. That victory was probably our biggest home win of the season thus far and I think we showed the Sharks and the rest of the league that we can compete with any team, especially at home. Thanks to the fans who came out this weekend…the crowd was GREAT! Best fans in the BBL!"

This week's blog from JR...

"This Saturday we had the tough challenge of facing the Newcastle Eagles who came into the weekend as winners of 15 straight league games and looking in full form as the season progresses, with about a month and a half before the playoffs. After winning four out of five games we feel we are definitely at a high point in our season.

"We knew this would be the best test we could face and we embraced the challenge to the fullest. I personally had a different focus. It was much more concentrated than usual because I knew we really needed this game to keep our strong form tight. Coach Paternostro studied hours of tape and presented us with a detailed report of their players and the rest of the job was on our shoulders. We felt prepared after another solid and intense week of practice so we knew what we needed to do; it was just a matter of execution."

"Saturday night we kept pace with how we’ve been playing of late winning our sixth game in seven tries and showed the top teams in the league that we will be a problem down the stretch, especially at home.

"We jumped on the Rocks from the beginning scoring the game’s first seven points and never looked back. Our defence was superb and the energy we provided guided us to another victory. Again our home crowd was instrumental in this win… They roared from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer and they have definitely been there for us as of late! Teams know they are in for a hard time when they come to the JSSC!

"Jo Harris led the way on Saturday with a monstrous 23 points and 13 rebounds while Ryan Zamroz and myself supported our fellow American team-mate with 16 and 15 points respectively. But after this great win it was on to the next one and we had to wind down, get some rest and get ready for the Heat of Guildford at 3pm the next day."

"This weekend we were lucky to only have one game, after having already played more double headers (back to back games on Saturday and Sunday’s) than any other team in the league thus far, and we felt very good going into Friday’s fixture with the Sharks.

"The Sharks are the 2011 BBL Cup Champions and we knew from the beginning they would be a tough task. We upended them a few weeks back at home by a narrow margin and they definitely wanted revenge.

"All week in practice we focused on our offensive execution and taking care of the ball but on Friday we just couldn’t seem to limit our turnovers and that cost us a very close game in Sheffield. The Sharks are a very good team, give them credit, but I would definitely say on Friday, we beat ourselves."
