Stig the Lawnmower Posted 8 February 2011 Share Posted 8 February 2011 Just read in 'Uncut' that Pat Moran died earlier this year. Pat was lead vocalist in a leicester based progressive rock group called 'Spring' in the early 70's, one of the first groups to feature the Mellotron. made one album, other group members included Pique Withers, the original Dire Straits drummer, and Ray Martinez now with Showaddywaddy. Pat became and enginneer and producer at Rockfield Studios, being heavily involved in Robert Plants solo albums after Led Zep (Ray Martinez's brother Paul played bass for Plant). Saw them live loads of times, a couple of times supporting Family (Roger Chapman - City fan) Met Pat a few times, nice bloke. Spent an afternoon in the sun in Monmouth drinking coke floats and smoking wacky baccy with him, Paul Martinez and my brother after visiting Rockfield. Good days, just an old fogey now!!! John Peel described their album as brilliant. worth a listen, was re-released on cd, called 'Spring'!!
