lush Posted 3 August 2005 Posted 3 August 2005 Shadow home secretary David Davies has called for an end to the Government's policy of multiculturalism. Mr Davis, front-runner to become Tory leader, said more must be done to force Muslim communities to integrate into British life. "Britain has pursued a policy of multiculturalism, allowing people of different cultures to settle without expecting them to integrate into society," he said. "Often the authorities have seemed more concerned with encouraging distinctive identities than with promoting common values of nationhood. "Britain has a proud history of tolerance towards people of different views, faiths and backgrounds. But we should not flinch from demanding the same tolerance and respect for the British way of life." Mr Davis backed the view of the chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, Trevor Phillips, who described the concept of multiculturalism as "outdated". "We should learn lessons from abroad - from the United States, where pride in the nation's values is much more prevalent among minorities than here," Mr Davis said. "Above all, we must speak openly of what we expect of those who settle here, and of ourselves. "Let us be clear. Non-Muslims have obligations to their Muslim fellow citizens to strive for equal opportunities for all, to accept the mainstream version of Islam as part of society. "But Muslims in turn have obligations: not simply to condemn terror, as one Labour MP put it, but to confront it ." He strongly criticised the chairman of Birmingham's central mosque, Mohammed Naseem, for focusing his anger on the Government rather than the London bombers after one of the suspected terrorists was arrested in the city. "People such as Mr Naseem do no favours to the Muslim community. After all, Muslims too are in the sights of the Islamic extremists," he said. Is multiculturalism working? I think so, but not all of it. Weve had murders, riots, probably thousands of discrimination cases, and all in the name of left wing ideology. We have numerous organisations to help non whites and non christians such as the black & asian police and teachers associations (BAPA), so why do we have such segregation/bad feeling etc? Has the political policy of previous and current governments to force a wide range of different cultures upon us, backfired? Sure, nothing is ever perfect, but the ideology decissions of our political masters have led to terrorism upon us, by our `own` people. They are completely to blame whenever a racial incident occurs.

They said there was evidence the gangs were targeting vulnerable young men and threatening them with violence if they did not "convert" and join them. Scotland Yard said they were aware of a gang called the Muslim Boys, a number of whom had been arrested for gun and drug offences. A police statement said: "Trident are aware of a number of young black males in South London who call themselves the Muslim Boys, and are involved in gun and drug related offences. Someone explain to me how many cultures are going to get on in the future?
