Stuliasz Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Wasilewski Edges Out Triple-MotM Winner Schlupp For January Award lcfcratings.wordpress.com Marcin Wasilewski displayed some fine form during January as his consistently high-rating displays were enough to earn him the January Player of the Month award. Wasilewski was ranked at least 4th in all five of his appearances winning two man of the match awards in the process as he continues to fight for his place following the arrival of experienced defender Robert Huth. Jeff Schlupp will consider himself unlucky not to win the award after being voted the top player in three out of the six games this month with only the Man Utd rating letting him down. Marc Albrighton did enough in his limited time on the pitch to finish third with some impressive cameos that still haven't earned him a regular starting place. It was these three players who had the monopoly on the man of the match awards during January. The draw against Liverpool at Anfield dominated many of the other awards as City dominated but came away with just a point. This was largely down to referee Mike Jones whose inexplicable decision to award a penalty for handball against Wes Morgan saw him earn the lowest refereeing performance of the season so far. Despite this the performances of Jeff Schlupp and Riyad Mahrez against the Reds were the first and third best individual ratings, while Schlupp's display against Spurs was enough to see him also take second place. The Liverpool game was also the best team performance while the two home 1-0 victories against Aston Villa and Newcastle finished second and third. This was mirrored in how the fans rated Nigel Pearson's in each match with the exception of the Spurs cup victory taking third in place of Newcastle. Pearson's approval rating continued to swing from game to game, with the extent of the swing increasing as the month went on. Elsewhere the voting supporters were not impressed with the standard of opposition or refereeing over the whole month. Manchester United's comfortable 3-1 victory won the best opposition performance, while Stoke's gritty away display finished second ahead of Tottenham's performance in the FA Cup 4th round. The remaining three teams were all voted with very low marks, as Newcastle followed by Aston Villa fought each other for the worst opposition performance this season. Lee Mason, Andre Marriner and Martin Atkinson made the top three largely thanks to poor displays from Mike Jones, Michael Oliver and Robert Madley in the other three games.
