Player Profile

Campbell made his Leicester debut during World War 2 at home against West Brom in October 1943.

He looked set to prosper with Celtic before the declaration of war forced the winger, who could play with both feet, to play guest matches for Aldershot, Folkestone, Clapton Orient and Chelsea while serving in the Dental Corps during the war.

He made 46 wartime appearances for Leicester, scoring eleven goals from out wide, during the three years of regional football action. He played one game for City in the FA Cup but was taken off with a cut eye and concussion.

A move to Walsall followed and he was briefly assistant manager at Reading while he studied dentistry at Birmingham University. On completion of his studies, Campbell moved back to Glasgow to take up practice. He was also a women's athletics coach and veteran marathon runner.
