  1. Fans can be “the 12th man” and make a difference to an underdog , a team battling against the odds, with a manager and owners who are liked. Sadly we were none of these things and 100,000 passionate blue shirted fanatics couldn’t have turned us round.

But , like all fans, we are fickle and, like England the other night goals change matches and thoughts, and if Brussels tippy tappy plays through 1st division teams and we score a few early on , particularly if some of our youth are major parts of it, Martin, McArron and maybe even Winks will be the best thing since sliced bread. ( not Top or Rudkin though ay ) , cos that’s football and fans are the same countrywide.

This thread is 10% about Martin and 90% pure frustration at the club and the last few years of pain

its a very grim read and tbh the amount of hatred on this forum isn’t good for anyone’s mental health

everyone has an opinion but it’s turned into pure mob mentality hatred

the worst thing we can currently have this guy for is not liking his tactics or a crap spell at rangers - or quite simply he looks like a smarmy git - none of the above crimes of the century against us but the personal and even semi constructive comments are still well over the top in a negative way

I know my football as well as anyone and have seen the last 30 years as much as any of you on here and the continued negative outpost of hatred right now just doesn’t help anything or anyone

And yes this is a forum and yes your entitled to your opinion but let’s at least try and keep it constructive- would you talk to the guys face in the way you do on here ? And if you would your a really crap example of a decent human being

I’ll be giving him a chance - I don’t love the appointment but now it’s done the negative and hatred has to stop - take that into the ground again from August and it will be another tough place to be on a Saturday and I don’t want my young daughter to hear it or see it again this year - we as a fan base are as responsible as anyone to change the feeling around the place and it has to start somewhere

I don’t want him, but will now get behind him. That post deserves more than a thumbs up. Well said mate.

I'm praying Russell has seen the light and changed his unwaivering attitude to play high risk football without a proper structure. He is nothing like Maresca. Maresca brought control and a risk/reward balance. Russell brings all the risk.

More frustrating is the kind of players he will want are the ones we want to see the back of. Also Vestergaard has proven he can't play the high line Russell will want. And Winks... Surely, we can't afford him and he has to go.

In Enzo’s system when we won the league Vesty and Faes spent most of it in the opposition’s half, high line didn’t bother them then, but our ball holding quality has dropped since then so we’ll see.

Doesn’t matter who the manager is when we don’t have a capable recruitment team. Can they assemble a squad more dislike-able than last season? They’ll try their best.

That’s where the money should go, recruiting. Coaches are ten a penny, good man manager’s though, a different story.

    From a Rangers Fan -

You can look forward to a suicidal high line, a system too complicated for the level of players you have.

Conceding record amounts of chances and goals against you.

Aimless attacks all squashed into the middle of the park, but the idiot's system inverts every position.

90% of your play is between the goalie and the centre half, who Veg Lasso will expect to morph into prime Barasi for the “system” to work.

And once you get beaten, he will gaslight everybody and blame players' “anxiety” and “self-preservation mode”

He will eventually blame the fans if you complain too much, also.

    He's a con artist.

    Be afraid.

It was your first taste of it, it’ll be our 4th or 5th go at it, and only one got us promoted, the others said they were doing it but only half arsed, other than our centre halves having 60% of our 70% possession bit.

Don’t worry, we know exactly what’s coming and even with promotion it won’t get us off our seats.

  6. Didn’t want him, don’t like the style of football ( Man City bore me to death ) . But looking for positives, we have been building the club , from kids upward on this style of football, but since Enzo due to the poor selection of managers have never played it at first team level, in the premier because the quality opposition doesn’t allow it given our shortcomings, last season because our quality dropped both on the pitch and off it.

We are the big fish next season and wouldn’t be able to counter attack against teams sitting in, so hopefully Martin’s more dogmatic tippy tappy ( our othe managers since Enzo played at it ) can play through these teams and get us back up, and the momentum gained can propel us the next year too.

Grasping at straws I know but he needs a very good start to win over the fan base.

The other plus point is the players seem to like him and his style of play. And hopefully he plays most of our kids.

And a sell on although if it was £15m for a fairly unexposed 17 y o then we might struggle to get that to stick.

imagine being a defence trying to cover Dowman on one side and Monga on the other !   arsenals left wing is a lot easier to break into than their right side!

It’s a horrible thought as I hate arsenal with all my being. I think it’s fair to say only Arsenal fans like arsenal, and when they’re wining and moaning even they don’t like them much!

Hes not gonna say no to Liverpool let's not be silly they are still one of the biggest clubs in world football .

Yes, and because they have the pick o the world he probably won’t progress.

  9. Look what’s happened to a perceived generational talent in Harvey Elliott, these kids need to be careful what dead end they’re going up. But fair play to the kid if it’s about money.

Good luck to the lad & Liverpool

Why on earth would you want to stay here. !

He’d play first team here long before he starts his bit part career with them. It’s about big wages, quick.

There is no pathway for youth at this horrible club. Good for him.

You can’t play 3 or 4 15/16 year olds in the first team. You need proper rules that prohibit this robbery of talent, or at the very least get good fees. I may have missed it but have we had a fee off them for the other kid who has had no better a pathway than we would have given him?

Game of opinions, Thomas for me is the worst left back I’ve ever seen in the top two divisions of English football. I’d have VK play if I had to choose between the two.

Yes it’s a game of opinions, but on his crossing ability alone he’s a better player and there’s been many poorer players playing left back over the 60 years I’ve watched City in all 2 divisions, even this season how many under 21 caps have the rest of this division have? Even between them! Yes he can be bettered but come on.

Thomas for me is catastrophic. He basically gives a goal away every game, VK is shit but not that shit

Yes he is, much worse than Thomas. He couldn’t trap a bag of cement, no qualities at all in a Leicester shirt, and a bad attitude to boot!

  14. 11 hours ago, whoareyaaa said:

He won’t come back now could have had him last season and still been in the Championship

Might even be fighting playoffs, how many awful draws or narrow defeats could his goals have turned round? And whilst he obviously can’t be the future, anyone who thinks he’s finished watch that goal against Juventus, outmuscling defenders and running half the pitch to score.

  15. 3 hours ago, ClaphamFox said:

Yes, on the grounds that even at his age he's likely to be better than anybody else we could sign. We'd probably have stayed up last season if he hadn't left. I can't see it, though.

If he’d have stayed we would’ve made the playoffs minimum. Thinking about it, I saw all home games and most away and I can’t remember anyone giving us a doing over, nobody impressed me as a potential premier team, including us obviously. He would’ve made a massive difference, with his hold up play and goals.

Embarassed to confess that I was in the "he pumps his fists occasionally so he's going to be the next Stuart Pearce" crowd when he first arrived. I'm genuinely sorry. In my defence I'd already worked out he was shit by the time we were first relegated. lol

I saw he was crap after a first couple of touches, you can tell….. Then I saw he couldn’t run either and makes Luke Thomas look Olympian in athleticism.

Genuinely the best badge in world football, apart from that currently we’ve got nothing.

I get your point but for me any winger has to be able to go inside and outside, and be competent with both feet.

It's far too easy for any defender if they know which way the winger is going every time.

Fatawu has always looked best when he mixes it up and will go around the defender and cut the ball back as much as cutting insode to shoot/score.

All very true, but start them on their strongest side and swap them over. I played out wide, and nobody had to tell me or the right winger to swap, we did it ourselves. Why can’t the modern player think for themselves? I’ve said this before but if our beloved set piece coach left the centre halves to it they wouldn’t be marking space , they’d pick their men up and mark them.
