The AFC teams starting strong this World Cup.

He was the same in the last World Cup and I was delighted we bought him unfortunately with injuries and our desperate need to play like Man City he doesn’t fit the criteria of playing out.
But if you want an old fashioned CB my god he’s decent
100% with you!

I’ve said it before on here, he would’ve been Maguire 2.0 if not for the injuries. He was criminally underused, because he’s a brilliant defender first and foremost, and not a ball playing CB. In a team that could not defend a set piece he would’ve been so useful.

By an absolute mile our best centre half. It isn't close.
Our only CB that knows how to play CB.

Only been posting about Irankunda for 4 years 😤

People tried to tell me on here Souttar wasn’t going to make the Socceroos squad and he’s captaining.
-
People are still talking about “if he gets into the World Cup squad”
He will be starting for the Socceroos. He will be the best CB in a group they can finish top 2 in. He will add value to that £3m valuation immediately.

From a Melbourne City bias perspective, if we need a midfielder Zane Schreiber is probably my favourite at the moment, and Patrick Beach will likely be GK3 at the World Cup.
In a move I don’t understand unless he’s got another A-League gig lined up, Schreiber has not renewed his contract. He’s a free agent. Would be an interesting young prospect behind Braybrooke/Cartwright etc etc -
Have to say this is probably the most insightful thing I’ve read from the club in a long time, potentially ever.

Thanks mate.
Jovanovic and Caputo both intrigued me as potential back-up striker options, finding at least one striker in that early 20 bracket would be sensible business imo.
For the league we’ll be in, plus the type of fees A-League players go for, targeting a league like that would also be sensible business, you’ve seen a fair few jump to England and Scotland in recent times.
With James McCarron coming in from Man City, with City Group ties to your team Melbourne City, hopefully he has some knowledge to Melbourne City, plus the A-League in general.
Probably wishful thinking though.
Are they better, or higher potential, than Evans/Hutchinson? Probably not. But they have senior minutes, against 30 year olds, something our youth don’t get! They’re forced to be exposed to tough football. And Melbourne City play CFG style, all the way through the academy. There are some good players coming through Australia and I’ll think people will be shocked. If it was Max Caputo playing Serie B I think there’d be lots of calls about him.

Watching him live notching a hat trick the other week, he seems to have it all.
Why can't we scout players like that these days?
(Yeah of course I know the answer to that question)
I was calling for Irankunda to be signed on this very forum WELL before he was signed to Bayern.
I’ve said that the ‘prodigious talents’ that were all flash would fail (Garang Kuol, Arzani, Tilio).
Bos after seeing him for like 2 weeks was clear as day, Herrington deserved more than a move to the MLS and he’ll prove that in the next 12 months, Segecic was an obvious one. Pompey signed players I probably didn’t rate that highly, and they’ve been fine.
All that to say I’m available to hire.

Thoughts on Luka Jovanovic and Max Caputo @ACF
Also any other youngsters caught your eye in the A-League this season, as I see it’s been quite a hotbed for young players this season.
Should be a market for Leicester to target, Pompey have done it recently with Segicic for example.
Being a Melb City STH I’ve watched Max every week, he’s a strong, physical boy. Made his debut at 15 I think, and has been around the men’s team ever since.
At the moment he’s a poacher, every goal is a run behind or finishing a cross. He’s developing his hold up play quite well but he can go spells where he’s not involved. He wins his aerial duals, but won’t enough the ball again in the build up play - I’m sure the stats would say his chances created and touches overall would be very low. He also isn’t a volume shooter, but would a goal every second game striker.
Had a couple of injuries this year which was disappointing, as this was the year he was given the starting job. The team plays so much better with him up top, and he can finish. Melbourne City are very focused on developing their youth, Jordan Bos is the first of this group who made the move overseas and he’ll be in the Prem by the end of the year. His potential and talent was obvious to everyone watching.
Jovanovic is different. From what I’ve seen he’s much more involved in the play and drags defenders with him, much more likely to create chances. Goals per minute were better than Max if I remember correctly, but still all in the box (definitely last season) and he’ll take 3 shots per 90.
They’re both excellent young players, who I hope get the chance. I think the step to League 1 is possible for Max, but the sheer amount of extra games will be his issue, and the lack of involvement in the build up will polarise some. Jovanovic I’m less confident on, as his game is based on things which will be harder for him to do in League 1.
To me they both look more promising talents than I ever thought Mo Toure was, and he’s just torn it up for Norwich and likely to lead the Socceroos attack at the World Cup.
From a Melbourne City bias perspective, if we need a midfielder Zane Schreiber is probably my favourite at the moment, and Patrick Beach will likely be GK3 at the World Cup.
And as a reminder, A-league player will be available for less than a £1m. Cheap, English speaking, culturally similar, endurance wise they’re elite as we play football in Australian summer.

I’d love if these were our standard colours moving forward. The white shirt/white shorts combo is a bit too Leeds for me, would prefer the blue shorts and socks so it’s an inverse of the home kit. -

I'd rather watch you do that than get Kevin Muscat.
Absolute scum (from my childhood memories...)
Got worse when he came back here to Aus. Played under and coached around Ange for a long time and learnt a lot, and isn’t a bad manager at all. Has made a career of picking up where Ange left off.But he’s the dirtiest, most aggressive tosser of a human I’ve seen. He was a horrible horrible player who went out with intent to hurt.
Short story, when I moved out here to Aus, the A-league was just starting Melbourne Victory were the only team in town, Muscat was captain. Dad is a Wolves fan, and hated from his time there. Refused to support a team with that thug in it. Shortly after the second Melbourne team started, got our STH for the new team, then proceeded to watch Muscat be destroy promising young players career.
Generational hatred. -
