cisono Posted 17 September 2005 Posted 17 September 2005 Academy Beaten At Home Billy McKayCity's under 18s lost their unbeaten home record today (Saturday), going down 4-1 to Charlton Athletic at the Belvoir Drive training ground. It took something special to break the deadlock and that came when Charlton's Donovan Simmonds found himself with his back to goal in the six yard box with a quarter of an hour on the clock. The striker flicked the ball up and hit a volley over his shoulder to put the Addicks ahead. Leicester pressed forward, remaining patient in trying to create an opening and working eagerly to regain possession, Tom Tejan-Sie particularly effective in the tackle. But City could have found themselves two down after 25 minutes, captain Scott Lycett backing up to stop the goal-bound shot with 'keeper Alex Cisak beaten. The Foxes went further behind in the opening minutes of the second half after threatening the Athletic goal with a dangerous free kick. The visitors then attacked on the break to double their lead. City were playing catch up from that point and were frustrated in front of goal as they tried to claw back the deficit. Levi Porter had a chance to pull his side back into the game in the 51st minute, seizing on a Ricky Muggleton flick on but lashing his shot just past the post from the edge of the penalty area. And Charlton made it three before the hour mark, Cisak not getting enough on his parry to prevent a strike from 20 yards from hitting the back of the net. Muggleton was disappointed not to have got on the scoresheet soon after when his point-blank header from a Porter corner flew directly into the goalkeeper's hands. Billy McKay (pictured above right) gave City a ray of hope in the 63rd minute, tucking away another Porter delivery from a corner which he himself had won seconds earlier, when his drive forced an uncomfortable save. Further sustained pressure followed but unfortunately the home team could not find the telling finish and a late strike by a Charlton substitute with his first touch restored the visitors' three goal advantage at the final whistle. CITY: Alex Cisak, Joe Magunda, Adam Wykes, Tom Tejan-Sie (Joe Matock 64), Scott Lycett, Liam Norval, Billy McKay, Andy King, Ricky Muggleton (Craig Rochester 67), Ashley Chambers, Levi Porter (Lawrence Hunter 81) Subs (not used): Karl Pentney, Matt Goodwin From: http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/...~714678,00.html
Gené and Tonic Posted 17 September 2005 Posted 17 September 2005 ahh well, all good runs come to an end
cisono Posted 17 September 2005 Author Posted 17 September 2005 Yup, didn't enjoy watching that much, though! What went wrong - lost all air fights - lack of composure, conviction and confidence - given that we lost all air fights, no point relying on crosses to score from! - Charlton seemed to have one more gear - their left side players seemed to find too much free space a few too many times (or perhaps Leic's defending on the right hand side was not up to scratch, or both) - the Charlton keeper was good (and very tall) - tired from Wednesday match? Highlights of the match - Porter and Chambo not bad as usual, but didn't manage to convert - Wesolowski attended (together with Dodds, injured). OK, I am being slightly sarchastic here Good luck for the next game, Academy kids!
