Contract talks drag as Sheffield Wednesday battle to keep hold of attacker on Crystal Palace and Leicester City’s radar

Charles Hagan is keen to stay at Sheffield Wednesday, but as contract talks continue to drag, he’s continuing to attract interest from elsewhere.

The Star has previously reported that the Owls are in pole position to keep hold of the 19-year-old attacker as he looks to step up into senior football next season under Darren Moore, but it’s thought that there’s not been much progress in terms of getting a deal done.

Wednesday confirmed in their academy retained list that they were keen to keep hold of the former Chelsea youngster, but over a month later there has been nothing agreed and he is now heading into the last two weeks of his deal at Hillsborough.

It has been reported previously that the likes of Charlton Athletic, Stoke City and Brentford are all keeping an eye on the lad from London, and now The Star understands that both Crystal Palace and Leicester City are pondering making a move for him as well considering his future potential.

Given his progress through the youth ranks at Hillsborough and the fact that Darren Moore is thought to be an admirer of him, there’s no doubt that staying at Wednesday would give Hagan the best opportunity of playing senior football in 2021/22 – but there are certainly other things to consider at this point in time.

At this point it remains to be seen whether the Owls will be able to get a deal done to keep Hagan at S6 for the season ahead, while there’s also been no further news on fellow youngsters Josh Dawodu and Josh Render.
