Source Tier List & Subforum Guidelines

Transfer Talk guidelines:

Threads in Transfer Talk will be tagged by a moderator based on the reputation of the source. The tier list below is not exhaustive, if you feel a source is missing or has been classified incorrectly please let a moderator know.

 

During busy windows, threads about unlikely Tier 4 rumours may be merged in to the Twitter Transfer Rumours thread. If a thread you started has vanished, check there first. Rumour threads started without a source (eg, "I heard from someone on Facebook") are likely to be removed but will be reviewed first, we accept the possibility that some people may legitimately be "in the know."

 

Busy topics may have their tier updated as new information is released. Moderators will also try to keep you up to date using the Recommended Post feature to highlight the latest development in an ongoing transfer. 

 

Source Tiers:

 

Tier 1 - reputable sources with a long history of high accuracy and/or obvious connections to the club

Tier 2 - strong sources, consistently accurate

Tier 3 - UK broadsheets, international sports-focused news outlets, twitter sources with some history of credibility, etc. 

The Guardian

The Times

The Telegraph

The Independent

L'Équipe

La Gazzetta dello Sport

Sky Sports (not their rumour section)

BBC Sport (not their rumour section)

 

Tier 4 - UK tabloids, gossip sections, football blogs and rumour sites, usually complete speculation, occasionally click and rage bait, 90% rubbish.

Sun, Mail, Mirror, Express, Standard, Leicester Mercury (yes really),  Star, Sport, Metro etc

CaughtOffside, 90minutes, Goal, Football365, LeicestershireLive, TalkSport, etc.

A note on aggregators: the likes of FosseHub, SportWitness, etc, get their content by re-posting rumours for clicks, shares and views. Links from these will be judged by the validity of their source. Faux aggregators that frequently don't name their sources and opt for lines like "HITC Understands..." will just be deleted, they're 99.9999% trash tier nonsense, if there's any credibility to a source it shouldn't be difficult to search for the origin.

 

To iterate, this list obviously isn't definitive and is flexible. DM me or another mod (spam Ric, he probably deserves it) if you have feedback, want to add a source or want to object to a source's rating.
