The Missing £

Recommended Posts

3 lads live together and need a new tv, they see one in a second hand shop window for £30, they go in and tell the assistant they want it and each put their £10 on the counter for it, as the assistant is getting the tv from the window display his manager says "oh I forgot to tell you that I reduced the tv yesterday to £25".

As the lads hadnt heard this, the assistant thought that he"d be greedy and only give them £1 back each and keep the £2 for himself,so he gives the lads the tv and hands them £1 back each saying there was a price mix up.The lads walk out with their tv and a £1 each in their pockets.

So in effect, the lads have given the assistant £9 each totalling £27, the assistant had pocketted £2 which totals £29.........wheres the missing £1????

I've seen this before, but I can't remember the answer exactly.

But I say that your calculation is wrong - once you have the £27 (3 x £9) you minus the £2 to make £25 (which is the actual price of the TV) rather than add the £2 to make £29. The £30 is the wrong number that you are trying to reach.

Hopefully that is clear - but if not, the 3 lads paid £27 for the TV that actually cost £25 (so there is a £2 difference which the assistant pocketed) - so you shouldn't be attempting to reach £30.

Ever attempted that one behind the turnstile?

lol I wish! I'd be sacked if I did that! Then there'd be no more free home games!
