Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 June 2006 Posted 2 June 2006 Nope I disagree there,Northampton finished 2nd because they deserved to over 46 games and he took over nearly 3 years ago when they were struggling in league 2 and got them to the playoffs that season followed by another playoff finish the following season. And of course this season he achieved automatic promotion,so I think we have appointed him on his achievements in the last 3 years, and in the lower leagues promotion is very difficult,no matter how much money a team has! I appreciate that's how it could look from an optimistic outsider's view but having lived in Northampton my whole life and been to quite a few games both this season and in the past, I had to put my view across. Northampton have badly underachieved under Calderwood right up until the winning run at the end of the season just gone. I just think it's a strange move and there are a lot of much better managers on the market. My mate's view (Northampton fan at uni in Nottingham); "As referenced by Forest spending all that money on Tyson, Holt, Clingan etc and still not managing to get promoted. For goodness sake, players like Breckin, Padula, Commons, Gareth Taylor (!) were Championship players the season before, and even with all that money (any fool would admit it was a lot to be spent in January) Barnsley are the ones who will be in the Championship next season. Of course, Forest have the best players in League 1 pretty much, so they should be champions. Ah, hang on, Northampton had the best players in League 2 (minus Rickie Lambert). Promotion was secured in spite of Calderwood, and the aberrations previously described, not because of him. With John Ward, we would have gone up in 2004..."
