Recommended Posts

I'm currently looking for a job for over the summer, and have put together my CV which i am going to send to loads of different compaines and see what response i get, i am also trying to put together a covering letter saying why i am wrtitting to them etc. I have put this so far. Any thoughts on how i could improve it would be much appreicated.

Dear Sir/Madam

My name is Daniel Reynolds and I am writing because I am looking for a job for over the summer holidays. I enclose my CV for your consideration.

I am currently a student at Leicester College studying BTEC First for I.T Practitioners in Computing.

I am particularly interested in working for your company because of the high reputation your company has, and your commitment to giving young people like myself a chance in the working industry.

During my time as a student I have had a variety of part-time jobs, all of which have required me to work as part of a team and to deal directly with the public.

Just a minor quibble, grammatically I wouldn't have "your company" twice in the same sentence. Substitute it with something like "you hold". Hope this helps and good luck.

I've carried out in excess of 1000 interviews so here's a few tips:

Get out there and knock on doors if you want bar work go to the bar, if you want shop work go to the shop, always have a copy of your CV available for them to look at later. Always ask to see the manager or Asst manager. Do not go when it is busy, go when they first open or are about to open!

Always turn up looking smart, almost all job candidates are turned down on appearance alone. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Find out as much as you can about the company, head office, turnover, how many employees they have etc etc

Always read the application form thoroughly, if it says at the top complete in black ink, then complete in black ink, you have passed the first test!

If you tell me what type of work your looking for I may be able to help further.

The letter in your thread is ok, but you need to be more specific don't just say a variety of part-time jobs give details of a couple of the more successful one's.

What do you like doing in your spare time? What are your ambitions? What is your best achievement?

You don't need to tell them everything just outline a couple.

Get references!

Last but not least always check your CV for spelling mistakes there is nothing worse then reading a CV littered with them.

Hope this helps.
