Villa

Former Aston Villa boss Brian Little believes he can 'restore harmony' to the Midlands club.

The 52-year-old has been out of work after stepping down as Tranmere Rovers manager back in early May.

After managerial stints at Wolves, Darlington and Leicester City, Little took charge of Villa back in November 1994 and led them to a League Cup triumph before leaving the post in February 1998.

Spells at Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City followed before he was made Tranmere boss in October 2003.

With David O'Leary leaving the Villa hot-seat in the midst of well-document internal turmoil at the club this week, Little thinks he has what it takes to provide some order at Villa Park.

"I'm sure I could provide the buffer between the chairman (Doug Ellis) and fans and restore harmony," Little told the Daily Express.

"A lot of people thought I left because of Doug, but that wasn't the case. I had to resign because of family problems.

"I'm re-married, have two young children and know I could walk back and do the job.

"Doug and I got on well and he has provided money to buy players for every manager he has employed.

"Since I left, I've seen big changes at Villa and it concerns me they have fallen behind the likes of Bolton and Blackburn.

"When the downward spiral starts, it's difficult to get out of it. Obviously, there is a lot of room for improvement.

"All the bits are in place, it just needs someone to pull it together."

Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie is hoping the saga that saw the departure of O'Leary on Wednesday evening can be put behind them, claiming the players must focus on the season ahead.

"We had the worst season we've probably had for a long time, with the main aim this season to doubly improve on that," Hendrie told the club's official website.

"We don't need all this stuff hanging around our heads, and we don't need to get involved in it.

"We just need to get our heads down in training because we want to start this season on a high.

"The lads all know we've just got to get together and let the people at Villa Park sort out what is going on at the club.

"We just need to get on with the football and start giving the fans something back. That's what we're paid for, not to get involved in issues around the place.

"I think we get paid pretty well and all we need to do is concentrate on training every day and going out on the pitch and giving 110 percent."
