There has been a definate fall in the racism that used to greet player like John Barnes back in the early 80's, however it has always existed.

Clubs make token gestures by displaying banners etc around ground but never really took the whole thing seriously.

The only reason it is now the 'hot topic' is because it happened at an England match. Where was all the media outcry when visiting fans used to sing "you're a town full of p*ki's" at Filbert Street??? Or when Muzzy Izzet was abused for being Turkish, or even when England fans racially abused Heskey a few years back?

Sadly I feel the media have used the events in Spain to mask over England's inept performance in the week. If they truly cared about kicking racism out they'd have been on the bandwagon ages ago.

As for the geezer at Blackburn, why was he only ejected? What he did is an arrestable offence.

There was one incident at Filbert Street where a fan was charged and prosecuted.

He was let off because he said that he'd lost his voice and was miming. The judge said there was insufficient evidence from either side.

I actually identified the bloke, and gave my details to the police. I said I was willing to go to court and say that I'd seen him racially abusing the City fans. I was never asked to make a statement, and I was never called as a witness.

Then they wonder why racism still exists.

Exactly. When we played Leeds at Filbert Street a few years back I remember their scum supporters' racist abuse at Leicester's Asian population. I wrote to Peter Ridsdale and got the typical response about him trying to do his best and that he's look into the matter. Nothing was done of course.
