Jonesy_rules Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 any information on employment laws? in particular uniform!
Guest Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 What exactly do you need to know? Some of us may know the answer.
Jonesy_rules Posted 23 November 2004 Author Posted 23 November 2004 few things really: 1. If you are under 19 and work 4 hours + a day, how many minutes break are you allowed, because i no under 18 it's 30mins! 2. If you go "over" by 15 minutes, but offer to make it up, by not having a break next time, can employers insist on making you stay 15minutes later instead? 3. if you wear a uniform / overalls, are you intitled to a few minutes before the end of your shift to get changed? any employement laws would be grateful! thanks people!

Jonesy_rules Posted 23 November 2004 Author Posted 23 November 2004 Are you 100% sure on these scarborough fox? o and i'm cotracted 12hours, but everyweek since i've started (a year ago) have worked 13/14hrs! got a valid arguement against the duty manager anyways, but wanted to no my options! Leaving looks the best, for the p[at few months i've had stick, because i wasn't afraid to stick up for myself against the store manager like most of the students who work there are! Wasn't disresepectful, i just argued my point and got counselling for it (one before a verbal warning)! Now they are watching me like a hawk, while TRYING to take liberties!
Scarby Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 nothing is 100% these days mate! are you consintantly late of breaks? are you cheeky? do you feel you 110% to every shift? are you part o the team? are you a grafter? there is no point in legal yourself because the sytem will beat you hands down. If everyone at work was in the same boat then go and research it more.
Guest Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Scarborough's right, I'm afraid. You really need to get out your contract or staff handbook and go through it with a finetooth comb. Employers usually do take liberties, but there will be a get out clause for them, no doubt.
Jonesy_rules Posted 23 November 2004 Author Posted 23 November 2004 they have a bad reputation at our school, for taking liberties with students, and nope i don't consider myself cheeky, instead i stick up for myself, when i no i have a point and i'm correct! cheers for the help they peeps!

If you have a genuine reason for taking over 15 minutes, then that should be taken in to account. If it's due to a lack of time keeping, then they can take you down disciplinary. 3) No, you have to work your shift right until the last second, that's what they pay you for. Some of these terms differ depending on the company/organisation you work for. I work for a big company so the conditions are pretty much standard to other big companies/organisations.
