andrewsnaith Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 Hi Guy's (and girls) I've opened up my own techie related messageboard at www.system-icarus.co.uk and i was wandering if anyone here is interested in signing up if they are involved within IT. It was primarily born out of a idea of me and some work mates but we need to build up a decent community. It's mainly for IT people but anything goes really and we could do with some regular people to keep the regular sections alive. My aim is to use it as a great place to share knowledge, adivce and also just regualar stuff to help keeps us sane during those boring days at work! It would be great if anyone into IT can sign up as it will really help us build the community. once again i really dont aim to take people away from here, just want to offer people interested in computing another board to post at. I dont know what the mods/admins are like on here and if i've done something which is deemed as wrong by posting this then by all means delete this thread ive started and i apologise for any rulebreaking! I just thought that as this is primarily a footy board and that is primarily an IT board so I don't see any conflict of interest etc hence the post. Hope to see you on there. -Andy
andrewsnaith Posted 7 September 2006 Author Posted 7 September 2006 After all the IT posts recently its a shame to see only one person has signed up. Is there any recommendations anyone can make as to why the low in take? Or is it because you like to use the one board? At the moment im getting a lot of hits but no activity and it seems like theres a bunch of peopel waiting for stuff to be posted to reply too? its all cool if you just dont wanna sign up (i realise not everyone is a geek like me !) but just wandered if there was a particular reason why you dont like it then maybe I could make some changes which could serve me better in the long run! Cheers. -Andy
JadeFalcon Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 prefer to do house calls than sit on a board answering it tech all day long for nothing
andrewsnaith Posted 7 September 2006 Author Posted 7 September 2006 ah sorry i was having a bit of a slow moment! I get you now. Though it's for IT related chat, news and advice etc not just IT support and stuff. I see what you mean though.

andrewsnaith Posted 8 September 2006 Author Posted 8 September 2006 Ehm and why are you running it? (ie there are already lots of similar forums around) mainly because I like the idea of building a good online community and partly because I can't stand the layout and design of most other boards.
lookwhaticando Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 mainly because I like the idea of building a good online community and partly because I can't stand the layout and design of most other boards. Sorted. Like the theme you've employed there. Nice and Clean.

cisono Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Incidentally, how much physical memory (RAM) does your PC have?
andrewsnaith Posted 8 September 2006 Author Posted 8 September 2006 Sorted. Like the theme you've employed there. Nice and Clean. Thanks mate :-)
billabob Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Incidentally, how much physical memory (RAM) does your PC have? erm, how would i find that out?
lookwhaticando Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 erm, how would i find that out? Got a link to "My Computer" on your desktop or Start Menu? If so, right click on the My Computer icon and hit "Properties". At the bottom right of the dialog box which appears, it'll tell you the vital specs of your computer - the processor class and speed, as well as the amount of RAM you have. It'll look something like: 512MB of RAM

lookwhaticando Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 mine says 240mb of RAM, what do i do now! You earn some money and add s'more RAM or you bitch and complain at your parents (assuming it is they who purchased your computer) to do so for you.
cisono Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 You earn some money and add s'more RAM or you bitch and complain at your parents (assuming it is they who purchased your computer) to do so for you. Yes. You need to buy more RAM for your PC. Depending on your motherboard and how many slots are left, you can simply add more RAM or you may have to replace the existing RAM so that the overall amount of RAM is higher than it is now. How much do you need? To give you an example, my PC has 1Gig RAM (ie 4 times more RAM than yours). This was a lot when I built this PC (a couple of years ago) but it is quite mainstream now.
lookwhaticando Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Only 1GB My laptop's got 2GB cisono - operating in stealth mode tonight, where've you got to?
