davieG Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 City Unveil Sunday Market Leicester City Football Club aim to launch the Walkers Stadium Market next month. The final stages of consultation with local residents and businesses are now taking place so that the Sunday Market can begin on October 8. Working in partnership with Leicester City Council, the football club have agreed to provide the venue for a weekly Sunday market. The car park at the stadium will host an abundance of traders and car booters with free parking available for customers on Raw Dykes Road (adjacent to the stadium). Admission will be set at 50p for adults and FREE for pensioners and Under-16s. City Chief Executive Tim Davies said: "We were approached by the city council earlier this year with their proposals and after listening to them we were more than delighted to offer our assistance. "We, as a football club, are an integral part of the local community and we hope the market will grow and develop and become one of the Midlands' most successful markets." Cllr John Mugglestone, the Leicester City Council's Cabinet lead for regeneration and culture, added: "We have been consulting with local residents and we hope to get the market up and running next month. "This is an extra service for the local community. The football club is an ideal venue for this type of market and is something a bit different to the market in the city centre which is held during the rest of the week." In addition to the market, the 1884 Sports Bar will be open for light refreshments on the day while Filbert's Carvery will serve Sunday lunch on a drop-in basis from 12noon until 2.30pm and Fusions Restaurant, the City Megastore and the Sports Bar will also be open.
