Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Having been privileged to interview the guy myself, I just loved this Bill Shankly anecdote from Patrick Collins in the Mail on Sunday today: He spoke of the great man's wife Nessie answering the phone to someone asking for Bill and saying: "I'm sorry. Bill's not here. He's over the park playing football with the kids." When will he be back? "When he wins, of course!." Collins emphasised how contemptuous Shankly would have been of all the bung takers and shysters in the game today. Too right. And he'd have had just the right words to have got his feelings across.
