dan_84 Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 Levein hints at change of style Boss Craig Levein says Leicester will be looking to change their style of play at the Walkers Stadium because of some of their defensive deficiencies. Levein told BBC Radio Leicester: "When we are aggressive and on the front foot and are high up the pitch we lack pace defensively and that's worrying. "We will do something about that but it cannot be addressed right away. "It might be we take a different approach and that we sit deeper at home so that teams cannot get in behind us." Forgive me if im wrong but isnt our problem when we'r at home that we sit to deep and dont attack teams enough? We often dont look like the home team, and very rarely create as many chances as away sides. Surely our new approach should be that we have an all out attack style of play and if a team scores 1 goal we'l score 2.

He is not referring to how we defend when we are under attack, as we all know we sit to deep(To be fair this has been getting better!), rather what happens when we are on the attack. If you watched our defenders closely on Saturday you will see that it is our policy to get Dabizas and Dublin into enemy territory to be a threat from our set pieces. This is all well and good is you score a goal but what happens when we don’t? When you have Central defenders who quite frankly by 18month old son could out run it means that we are left exposed for the counter attack. This failed to happen on Saturday but the evidence was there to see. When Dabizas missed with his header, the ball had been cleared by the goalie into touch and the subsequent throw in was under way BEFORE Dabizas had passed the half way line!! This in my opinion can be helped by not playing Dublin and Dabizas together, Heath is a damn sight faster than both of them so could in line for a return to the squad. Did you see how slow Stearman made them look? Line up for Friday. GK Taylor RB Stearman (But I think he will play Makin for his experience) CD Dabizas (But I think he should play Heath) CD Keown LB Stewart RM Gillespie CM Williams CM Joey LM Tiatto STR Connolly STR Blake Allot of you wont agree with Blake but his options are limited. Scowcroft : Had a bad game against Reading and made Blake look worse than he was. Benji : I Like the guy but I think we could use him right side if midfield is chasing the game as he is big and strong but as a striker he fluffs to many chances. Wright: Too big a game to drop him into the starting line up when he hasn’t been in the squad all year. Dublin : Too slow IMO but you never know.
Guest Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 Keown is deceptively quick, but his fitness cannot be guaranteed. Agree with the comments about Dabizas and Dublin, they are painfully slow, and teams can hit us on the break very easily. I think Levein's comments hint that he might be looking for defenders in January, and not strikers. It would also be nice to see the midfield help out a bit when we lose possession, sometimes they can be too slow to react.

Keeping clean sheets is all well and good but if you don't score the most you can get is a 0-0. As for midfielders being too slow to react - well it's hardly surprising when half of them are the wrong side of 30 (Nalis and Gemmill).
Scow Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 I think the whole side lacks any sort of pace. You look at the spine of our team: Dabizas, Dublin, Gemmill, Nalis, Scowcroft and Blake. That's where our problem lies. We need more energy and pace all over the pitch. Teams cut through us so easily at times because we're so slow in everything in do - This includes our attacking build up play. We don't move the ball around quick enough to stretch teams, and it doesn't help that our movement is almost static.
