lookwhaticando Posted 30 March 2007 Posted 30 March 2007 Sheer lunacy on 606 tonight... some people want to see O'Leary back at Villa in place of MON. Some of them aren't Villa fans, so there might be a hint of sarcasm... but some of the Villa fans seem to want DOL back. Daft ****ers, they don't know what they got. <_< There's also someone who wants MON for Newcastle or England... that guy must know his football...
JoeyB Posted 30 March 2007 Posted 30 March 2007 they can have O'Leary back as long as we get O'Neil back

dandannieldanok Posted 31 March 2007 Posted 31 March 2007 MON is a million times better than O'Dreary but let's face it he ain't that amazingly good. Yes a Leicester he performed 'miracles' but he was in the right place at the right time as for as the players there were concerned. I won't deny the fact he made us good but I think other managers at that time would have done a similarly good job. When he went to Celtic, when anyone goes to the Old Firm, you are guarenteed to be in the top two places and always the top dogs. Now with Villa he has led them to a meagre 7 victories in 30 league games which, for the transfer fees splashed out, is a derisory return. Although it seems like a dig at him, it isn't at all and I would give anything to have the good times with MON back again. I just don't think he is a great manager, just a good one.
Ultra Posted 31 March 2007 Posted 31 March 2007 Oh FFS, what planet are you on? What other manager would have taken us up and kept us in the top 10 in the Premiership for FOUR straight seasons? Or led us to two trophies, and come within a whisker of landing a third? Or convinced any number of lower league journeymen (Elliott, Claridge, Lennon, Taggart, Savage) that they could hold their own in the top flight? He didn't do a bad job at Celtic either. OK, so his first season at Villa hasn't been a resounding success. But bear in mind he's been out of top-class football for six years. It was always going to take time to readjust. And to those who look at the 606 website, it should be noted that the site attracts more than its fair share of wind-up merchants and impostors.

Let's not forget that after the first few games in charge of Leicester he won very few, if any, games and I think I'm right in saying some fans wanted him out. Yes it's gonna take him time at Villa and to be fair to him he's not had a great deal of money to buy players until recently. Also Carew and Young look to be good signings and I'm a big fan of Maloney too. And he's brought some youngsters into the team, just look at how Agbonlahor started the season and Gary Cahill is doing ok too. I personally think he is an absolute god and brilliant manager. He was sensational at Leicester, bringing in quality players for very little money and developing them into top class Premiership players. Just look at Lennon, Izzet, Savage and so many others to see just how good he was at finding unknown players with massive potential. He did a wonderful job at Celtic...not only in the league but also in Europe (something which has proven very difficult for many managers at the Old Firm clubs) taking them to the UEFA Cup final. If you only take a look at his managerial record, you will see the immense success he has had at practically every club he's been at. I think he managed to get Wycombe promoted a couple of times or something like that. I love the man, when he talks you can tell he knows what he's on about and I fully expect Villa to have a good season next year. Anyway sorry for the rant, but he was a legend
