Midfield and Goals

Just had a prediction enter my head and thought i'd prove it, which i have. So far this season, something that very rarely happens is happening in the shape of who is scoring our goals.

Defenders so far this season have scored between them (in all competitions) 17 goals, which is: Kisnorbo (7), McAuley (4), Stearman (3), McCarthy (2), Kenton (1)

While midfielders have notched up between them (in all comps.) a meagre 11 goals, which is: Hughes (3), Porter (3), Tiatto (1), Williams (1), Wesolowski (1), Yeates (1), Johnson (1). What kind of midfield partnership after 46 games in all comps. 41 league, 3 carling cup and 2 fa cup ties only scored 11 goals between them.

Want the reason why we are struggling around low midtable areas?

A midfield with only 11 goals is your answer.

Great as our defence is, the midfield should easily excel them

Compare this however with Derby.....

A team who are where we should be, and in terms of midfield players (in all comps) have scored between them double our total at 22. 11 Goals more in which probably as a rough estimate at least 10-15 points were won because of those 11 extra goals. 10-15 points in this division is the difference between lower midtable and play off area.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE 17TH

Even looking at southend united, two of their midfielders Kevin Maher and Mark Gower have between them got more than our whole midfield this season. No-one can argue that are midfield players are less productive than two players from a team playing league one football next season and who probably wont be snapped up by a decent team as they are not recognized as good players - but they score...
