The Reverend Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 them footballers shud be ashamed with themselves all they hav to do is 90 mins payed work per week and nurses work there arses off for little pay and long hours its disgusting What a load of crap! I agree that players are overpaid, i agree that they should donate a days wages, but to say that footballers work for 90 minutes a week is stupid. They train probably for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and they have to be supremely fit indeed. If the whole of the population of this country took part in a football teams intense training session, 70% would probably die of exhaustion.
Mack Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Having watched the show the 'token' donation by all footballers was a tactic aimed at putting pressure on the government, rather than the money itself being vital to the wellbeing of nurses. The idea being to shames the government into giving nurses a proper pay rise. This was triggered by the yearly pay rise being offered working out at under the rate of yearly inflation, meaning in real terms a pay cut rather than a rise. To me nurses do a fantastic job, and often work over and beyond their hours without pay because the NHS is being squeazed to meet government targets. There can be no more worthy and life saving vocation that a qualified nurse, and such people should be applauded rather that beaten with a public stick. It is true that some of the very highly paid Premier League players negociated contracts where the club pays their income tax and their wage is 100% take home. However even if you are on ONLY 20,000 POUNDS A WEEK (only?) for 4 mornings work and one or two games a week you are not going to go hungry for giving up a days wages and highlight the fact that our government is not giving out life saving nurses reward for their hard work.
