The TV highlights show that the refereeing standards were as poor then as they are now, and that despite having won promotion, the home fans were outsung throughout by the visiting hordes.. Although it's a game we lost, this is worth watching for a glimpse of old-time legends such as Mark Wallington, John O'Neill and Jim Melrose, with a brief cameo from Sir Gary thrown in. The Umbro kit we wore in this game remains my favourite City kit of all time, and was so good we kept it for FOUR straight seasons! It's also a reminder of how constrained a team could be, back in the days when only one substitute was allowed. Tape or Sky + it if you won't be back from the match in time..

All I have to do to see him is turn up for school.
