Head Honcho Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 I've had my laptop for a few years now but never used the wireless facility! How do I use it and do I have to buy any wireless credit and if so where? Thanks in advance
act smiley Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 If you've got Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (and the wireless has been installed which it should have been when you got it if its a laptop), go into my computer and select control panel then network connections there should be an icon for Wireless Network Connection, click on that and it'll show you a list of networks your wireless can see. If you double click on one it should try and connect to it and ask you for a password key if neccessary. Doesn't really help if its switched on but can't see anything to connect to, though. How you enable it on your router depends on which model it is (and of course if it can do wireless). Most will allow you to log into it by typing 192.168.1.1 or something similar into your browser (depends on the model as to what they use for the second two numbers, first two are almost always 192.168) then typing in the username and password. In there you'll be able to set it up, read the manual. You don't need any credit to connect to your own network because its well, your own network, even if all it consists of is your laptop and your router. If you're connecting to someone else's network like in a cafe or something it depends on how they want you to pay for it.
