Update on Stanley name change story

Although the story posted on this website this morning was intended as a spoof release for April Fool's Day, the club has received a surprising number of generally supportive telephone calls and emails from around the county with regards to the subject of a change of name.

Speaking about the response Stanley Chief Executive Robert Heys said "We're not at a stage were we are making any decisions yet, in fact the idea of trying to widen the appeal of our club's name is something that we had never thought of, but if doing so means that we can increase our supporter base and reduce our reliance on the same people week in week out then perhaps we should explore it?

"It's not simply about us complaining about gates or moaning that we aren't supported by the town, there are many demands on people's time and we have no divine right to expect them to come to the Fraser Eagle Stadium every week, but if there are opportunities to increase revenue in any way then we have to look at them."
