Sooper Steve's shin Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Does it matter to the average fan how much he bought the club for (or ends up paying)? Mandaric is a businessman and worked a good deal - if we don't get promotion, he only pays 10p per share. But Mandaric has a massive incentive to invest (which I consider he has done in players brought in) so that we go up and stay up. He would pay more to the shareholders (up to £1 per share) but this would be far outweighed by profits from promotion and being in the Premier League. After a couple of seasons in the top flight, he would sell up and make more dosh. Why should we begrudge him that? It has obviously gone horribly wrong and Milan has another business decision to make. Sell up (possibly after a bit of a fire sale of the more expensive players) or gamble on building something stronger. I get the impression he is a big football man and would love to do the latter, the main disadvantage probably being his age - time is against him to make money and enjoy it. Clearly his mistake has been to think the "Portsmouth model" was guaranteed to succeed. Football has obviously moved on since they got promotion on the back of signing a few experienced, ex-Premiership players who bossed the league. True, we had a better physical infrastructure (stadium and training ground) than Pompey when he started there. Having had his experience, he no doubt thought he could do even better. But it's never quite so simple....
Fox in a Box Posted 6 May 2008 Author Posted 6 May 2008 I think also that relegation also activates a clause somewhere with 'teachers in america' the financial corp... , where as the £16M owed gets reduced, not 100% sure on this one but I can remember reading about it.
