fox123 Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 I found an interesting yet disturbing article yesterday regarding the state of our prison systems and psychiatric hospitals. Whilst this article was wrote in 2004 whats shocking to read is there is only one secure residential unit in the whole of the NHS - Arnold Lodge in Leicester, surely to free up spaces in the prison service we need more of these institutions. The article here is long and they have highlighted the main points at the bottom which I have noted here. Life of Glenn No place for most difficult prisoner · Glenn Wright is notorious within the prison system, sometimes described by governors as the most difficult prisoner in the country · Suffering from a personality disorder, he exerts enormous power by using his own body as a form of blackmail - swallowing razor blades, eating batteries, and pushing pens and broken porcelain into a wound on his leg and into his rectum · Childhood abuse led him into crime and into the prison system, where five forensic pychiatrists have recommended that he be moved to a secure psychiatric bed. He remains in prison · After persuading two cellmates to kill themselves and being found guilty of their murder, he was eventually sent to Broadmoor in November 2000. After four months the high security hospital said they could not manage him and sent him back to prison · He was then shunted from one prison to another on a "sale or return" basis as his attacks on himself became increasingly frantic. Finally, in November 2003 he showed some improvement under a treatment plan at Woodhill prison but was refused a place at Rampton - and the shuffling from prison to prison started again
DB11 Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 Why don't they just let him hang himself or whatever prisoners do these days??
