The Hearts Connection

I was looking through the forum to see how Craig Levein and the former Hearts players are doing at Leicester.

There is a Craig Levein debate thread which suggests he still has the backing of the fans but then it went off at a tangent to talk about the Chairman.

So, are you all happy with CL?? Are you happy with his style of football?? :S

What about the players he took with him??

Alan Maybury was always put in consistantly good performances whilst at Hearts, is this still the case.

Mark de Vries was always injury prone and I see he still is. To be honest, I don't think he's good enough for the Championship.

Paddy Kisnorbo, who I believe has just joined up with you, is a wee bit big headed. Very sure about his very limited skills. We're all a bit puzzled up here why CL was so keen to sign him.

I think the majority of fans are happy with CL - We can see that he's trying to build a younger, hungrier side for the future. The previous management was obessed with looking for a quick fix by signing an abundance of players who had long seen their better days.

I know CL had a reputation of not producing the most exciting football up at Hearts - However, he's actually got us playing some good football, albeit in patches. The game against Derby on Tuesday was perhaps the first time this season where we came close to playing well for the full 90 minutes.

Alan Maybury looks to be a top signing. A very competent full back, who's hard in the tackle, uses the ball well, and gets forward to good effect.

As for MDV - He has shown promise in patches with his excellent first touch. However, he's not really been that effective for us. For his man of his size, it's amazing that he doesn't win many headers. I know heading is not the strongest part of his game, but he's usually got an advantage over most defenders in terms of size and strength, and should be applying himself more. I'm willing to give him a pre-season, then judge him. At the moment, Dion Dublin is a much better option, even if MDV currently didn't have an injury...

Maybury is good and capable of playing above this league,

MDV looks very capable now and again, but his confidence has took a battering, or he is just crap and lazy. He needs to lose about two stone.

Highes is without doubt CL’s best signing; the lad has an excellent first touch, great anticipation and bags of energy. Real class.

Or other signing are all better than their predisesors and they cost less.

He has managed to pick out the bad players and has got rid of them, reducing the wage bill from about 10 to 5 million.

CL is obviously a thinker; he does not just buy a player and hope he will fit in he has a long term plan and is slowly putting together a team of players that will achieve it.

He obviously reads the game well and will change thing around and get results. Not since MON have I had such belief in what a manager is doing for us, he has brought some pride back into the club and installed some passion into the players. He will take us up next season. I am sure of it.

PS: Thank you Hearts

Hughes, Maybury and McCarthy all look very good.

It strikes me that DeVries needs a full pre season before I can come to a conclusion on him. I'd slag him off, but its not my style to take pleasure in other people's misfortune!

With the exception of MDV, CL's acquisitions are fair to middling Championship players.

However, whether they can power us to promotion, automatic or otherwise depends on these factors:

1) Their ability to play through a very long season consistently.

2) Levein's ability to lift them for key games (questionable).

In the extremely unlikely event of promotion only Hughes (if he's put on the nandy) might hack it in the Prem. So it will be golden oldies on one year contracts again folks...

It's a hard, hard world out there...

No you're right he's crap and lazy.

No, I'm just kidding although he does have a lazy style, he is very injury prone which probably affects him mentally.

He used to live just round the corner from me and was known to spend a fair bit of his spare time in the clubs of Edinburgh. :o
