Spencer Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Yesterday.. I put my Xbox up for sale on ebay for £250, someone snapped my hand off for it an I was so happy that I'd got rid of it at such a good price. So happy in fact, that I bought a PS3 off eBay an hour later, for a BARGAIN £200 with 5 games, from a seller with over 700 positive feedback from other eBayers! Checked my emails this morning.. First message is from the buyer of the Xbox, asking if I'll ship to Nigeria for an extra £80.00, and that she'd sent me an email confirming payment. Clearly a scam, clearly I'm pissed off by now.. Secondly I check upon the status of my PS3 purchase, the reputable member I'd bought it off had actually relisted the same auction 6 times in one day, one hour after the other, amassing a nice £1200 for himself. One of the games he listed hadn't even been released yet (Heavy Rain).. To make matters worse, I paid up front, and now his account has been deleted (good times). I've got a claim in with PayPal, but they won't do anything about it until he responds. So I'm £200 out of pocket for the next week or so, with an unsold xbox and no PS3! Rant over, thanks for listening *reaches for the noose*

I was selling some mobile phones on there and the first 3 times some random Africans tried to scam me!! If I ever sell now I always put only available to people in the UK. Stops all the shite then.
Tilley Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Had the same thing happen to me when I sold my PSP on eBay, some Nigerian's tried hacking into my bank account. As for you buying the PS3, that's the exact reason I wouldn't make a big money purchase like that on eBay.
Spencer Posted 19 February 2010 Author Posted 19 February 2010 I had no reason not to trust him, as he had 100% feedback from 700 people! Going bank after work today to try and cancel it immediately, rather than have to wait a week for PayPal to sort it! The contact details for the buyer are registered in Derby (surprise surprise), I've got their phone number so I shall be calling them after 4pm
Guest Bilo Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 I had that with a car I had on AutoTrader a couple of years ago. Offering me about a grand over the list price if I sent them a £1500 bankers draft for shipping costs first. Is anyone ever taken in by that kind of scam?
Guest Mee-9 Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Mate sold his blackberry on Ebay. Went up to about 400 quid, And ebay rang him up to confirm it was a legitimate sale. As people can like scam items and "clone" them
dogadug Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 sold and bought 1000's of items on ebay, and never been scammed like that although I have been caught up in a few disputes.
