Sheff Utd/Leeds mull Helguson bid

Helguson scored 20 goals for Watford last season Championship rivals Sheffield United and Leeds United have been in contact with Watford with a view to signing Heidar Helguson, BBC Sport understands.

The Icelandic international, 27, who has one year left on his contract, has recently been offered a new deal by Watford, who value Helguson at £1.5m.

Two other undisclosed Championship clubs are also pondering whether to make a move for the Icelandic striker.

Helguson, who is currently on holiday in Dubai, scored 20 goals last season.

I doubt it, we've not got 1.5mil to spend on a player... :(

Do you think we are going to fork out 1.5m for a Championship striker?

Why do some people think we have loads of money?!

They might value him at £1.5 Million, but I doubt he'll go for that as they don't want to risk losing him on a free at the end of next season.

Although, I'm not saying we're in contention as we'll be lucky to spend £200,000 max on a player...

Watford will not get that much money for him - no chance at all. Although i do agree with your point that we can only prob afford to pay 200k for a player.

It actually says 2 teams are pondering a move for him - doesn't mean they are going to offer 1.5 million does it??

If Leeds and Sheffield and Utd feel they have a realistic chance of getting him then so do we and hte transfer fee is obviously nowhere enarly 1.5m.

He is out of contract, so Watford cannot demand 1.5 million, he will go for a couple of hundred thousand.

If that's the case then maybe we are in with a shout...

I can see him leaving for around the 500-750k mark...
