gazza

In his prime i think gazza was possibly the best footballer England has produced.

Sadly, all we read, see and hear about him now is a 42 year old bloke who is totally out of control. lastest stories include spewing out of a car, walking around hotels totally naked, and facing prison after being caught 4 times over the drink drive limit. he has just about reached the bottom of a downward spiral.

i know people will say this is self inflicted, he had the world at his feet, and other things, but after reading gazza's autobiography, all his problems seem to have started from a young age when he was looking after his younger cousin, (i think) and the child in his trust ran into the road and was killed instantly by a car, gazza was first on the scene and he has never got over the guilt of this

my question is this-

should the state step in and help him, as he now seems totally unable to look after himself?

i remember Frank Bruno being sectioned when he became unable to look after himself, and he now seems to have turned his life around.

my opinion is they should, but, am i saying this just because of his status as a high profile figure, as there must be thousands of other alcoholics and drug users who have also reached rock bottom that need similar help,
