lcfcadam Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Top European clubs threaten to break away from Fifa and Uefa Unfortunately can't see this happening myself, but would be awesome and in fact, given recent and longstanding events surrounding FIFA, somewhat necessary. Surely the effects of the biggest clubs threatening like this would filter down throughout the game and eventually manage to break the back of all these desperate organisations the sport's been suffocated by for years without backlash...
davieG Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 If they were doing it for the benefit of the fans i'd be interested but something tells me it's just so the clubs can get their hands on more money somewhat akin to when the Premier League broke from the Football League/FA because we've all seen how that's benefited the fans.
lcfcadam Posted 28 July 2011 Author Posted 28 July 2011 'Spose that's the likelihood, but still I find it hard to believe any move away from FIFA could be anything other than positive. Any new association of clubs would have to be much more transparent because they'd be instigating something new and highly publicised, unlike FIFA who have been allowed to do whatever they like under most of our radars since football "proper" began.

I find it easy to believe it will make not a jot of difference money and power ensures that and as it would be international and probably outside of the control of the European Union there would still be no one to police it and ensure it's openness and transparency - but then I'm a cynic. Not that the European Union or similar world bodies are any more trust worthy.
