I have to say I was sceptical, how could they follow up such a great debut album (Over the Counter Culture) and after listening to the first single 'Boys will be boys' I wasn't sure, it all seemed rather commercialised (the crap reggae 'rapper') unworthy of the tag of 'ska'. Although it was the first single I expected it to set the tone for the whole album. Yet despite the lack of ska, I have to say the new record delivers. I wouldn't say it is as clever lyrically or deals with any new issues other than going out on the piss and 'love'( boring *referring to love not alcohol*) . However, it is melodically sound and the support of excellent string and brass arrangements is impressive! The CD I have also contains a DVD with a 20 minute or so documentary, which is quite decent, and also includes 3 live tracks, they are truly a band that appreciates their fans, and this is apparent if you watch the feature. I would recommend this album to any Indie rock fans who are not elitist pricks, the highlight of the album for me being the third track 'life will be the death of me' although they also cover another classic Specials song 'Rudi's in love' which is very good. Wellman Posted 9 July 2005 Posted 9 July 2005 This album is 'Off The Hook!!'. I think that it isn't as good as 'Over The Counter Culture' but it is definately up there. I would recommend this to any indie lovers like Cat Burger said. It's a right beaut and go out and buy it and help my home town band :D !
